Lopa has performed with the Ananda Shankar troupe for many years. She has also showcased the Shankar style in New York City. It is important to remember that Lopamudra originally trained in the Shankar style but her training has given her the potential to compose and choreograph in other indian styles which include folk and the latest rage “BOLLYWOOD DANCE”
Lopamudra Banerjee Dhar, (dancer and choreographer) has been dancing and teaching the art-form in the Chicago land area for the past two years. She is a Bollywood dance instructor in a reputed dance studio in Naperville and teaches the ‘Uday Shankar style of New Age dance from her home based studio. Training Trained at the Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts (ASCPA), Lopamudra has acquired skills to choreograph dances on any kind of music or song - be it western or Indian, bengali or telegu. Started in 1987, ASPCA is an institution based in India, which imparts training in the Shankar Technique of New Age Dance evolved by the artistic genius, the late Uday Shankar. The style is Indian in origin and spirit, modern in presentation and has universal appeal. Lopamudra started training at the age of four with a classical dance form (Kathak) but fell in love with the Shankar style which she learnt from 1989 - 2002. She has choreographed performances which were staged in New Delhi.
